The course at Canyamel
is rather average compared to some on the Island.
The front nine is very nice, the back nine is a
tad boring. on the plus side though, the course
is fantastically maintained and particularly forgiving
for players with higher handicaps.

This, I think, is one
of the most surprising courses on the island. Approaching
the car park one could be forgiven for thinking
that everything looks a little plain. I felt exactly
the same. Then having been severely punished for
some sloppy tee shots and rescue play, I realized
what clever course this is. The front nine plays
around and through a fairly steep valley where big
hitting is rarely the answer. The back nine are
completely different and those who hit long and
straight of the tee will benefit. The entire course
is open but beware, the bunkers are cunningly placed
and the greens can take a lot of working out.
Author’s favourite:
the long par 3 eighth is a real joy. Not only is
it one of the prettiest holes but if your tee shot
misses the green, you may find yourself with a blob.
Also enjoy the par 5 seventeenth where a big shot
to the left of the dog leg is a must.
