Yet another course with 2 faces;
the front nine is pretty boring but the back nine
is great, taking you through dense forest and over
steep inclines. Poniente is a fair course for all
handicaps and the groundsmanship is fabulous. Like
many courses in Mallorca it can be crowded at peak
times.
A Golfers View:
Situated
a kilometre beyond the Water Theme Parks of Magalluf,
Poniente is something of an enigma. Don’t
get me wrong. This is a big beautiful golf course
playing almost 7,300 yards from the championship
tees and including some majestic views of the mountains
to the north. But for one reason or another, some
visitors come off the course with mixed views, and
I can’t put my finger on why. Poniente is
well bunkered and its lakes may cause problems on
five or six holes. Never hilly enough to require
a buggy, this course is a test for players of all
ages and abilities.
Author’s favourite:
The huge par 3 twelfth at 210 mts with a dangerous
water hazard, and the wide open par 4 seventeen
(380 mts), where you must give it everything off
the tee, are great holes, but the par 4 tenth at
400 mts with “come to me” water is a
joy to play.
