Vall D'Or is
a course with 2 faces; the front nine are fabulous,
placed high above the sea in the mountains. You play
through dense pine woods and over enormous elevations.
The back nine, in contrast, are dull as ditchwater
and nothing to write home about. As is often the way
in Mallorca, the course can get very crowded at peak
times, so your round may take a while and you´ll
have a fair few spectators. |

Golfers View:
Close to the resort of
Cala d’Or on the south east coast, and ideal
for those who wish to travel a little farther a field
when staying in the eastern resorts of Cala Millor
or Cala Bona. Vall D’Or is a course of two halves.
The front nine features smooth rolling fairways bordered
by olive and almond trees, not too narrow but tricky
when the wind blows. The back nine holes run down
towards the sea and feature more rugged fairways similar
to those found on some British links courses. While
difficult would be too strong a word, keep your wits
about you as this course holds many surprises for
the first timer. Author’s
favourite:
Numbers 7, 8 and 9 are a great trio of holes. Number
seven (par 4) features a huge dogleg right where precision
off the tee is essential. The shortish par 4 eighth
goes the other way with an almost 90 degree left turn
dogleg, finally two lakes feature left and right of
the green. The par 5 ninth takes some describing so
I will let you make your own mind up. My only possible
complaint about Vall D’Or would be the par 3
eighteenth, only because I personally dislike short
finishing holes. |
