Mallorca
Golf Clubs. The Best Guide to Golfing in
Mallorca
Why
Choose Mallorca for your Golf Holiday?
|
| |
When is the Best Time
to Play?
Mallorca
is a twelve month golfing island, but let’s
be honest, December means Christmas, plus
January & February may feel a little chilly
if the sun doesn’t show itself. In spring
and autumn the courses can be crowded, and
of course the summer months will be hot and
the resorts can be busy. So come when it suits
you and your friends. If you want a sun tan,
major nightlife and a serious number of bars
& restaurants, May to October is the answer.
If, on the other hand, you don’t plan
to stray too far from your hotel, or you are
cost conscious, November through to April
should be perfect. One thing remains the same.
The terrific golf is available 365 days a
year.

Where
Should We Make our Base?
While
there are sixteen courses where visitors are
very welcome, and another eight or nine in
the pipeline. The majority are currently situated
in two parts of the island, the east &
the south west. So we would suggest that you
book your hotel centrally within one of these
two areas. Should you do this, you will find
your travelling to and from the courses essentially
carefree.
Of
course, there are wonderful golf clubs elsewhere
on the island, notably Alcanada in the north
and Son Termans in the west. So leave at least
one day free and enjoy a drive through the
beautiful countryside, along with a stop at
one of the many local restaurants. |

| A
Few Important Tips |
|
•
All golf courses in Mallorca have introduced
a no spikes rule and while they are
happy to fit spiders or similar. This
could prove expensive. |
|
•
Carry a handicap certificate; some clubs
are stricter than others, always check
with the club first. |
|
•
Arrive at your chosen golf course in
good time. Missing your “tee time”
can cause all kinds of problems. |
|
•
Remember that distances on Mallorcan
courses are in metres. To convert to
yards, simply add 10%. |
|
•
Avoid alcohol while on the course, and
carry sufficient water for the entire
round. |
|
•
Wear clothing to suit the weather conditions,
light coloured shirt & shorts or
trousers in the summer. Carry a sweater
for early starts in the spring &
autumn. In the winter months dress as
though you were playing back home. |
|
•
Wear a high factor sun screen even in
the winter months. If the sun shines
you will burn. |
|
•
Please observe all local rules, divots,
pitch marks, bunker repair, slow play,
etc. etc. |
|
•
Lock all important belongings in the
boot of your car. If using taxis, leave
all valuables in your room safe or with
the hotel receptionist. Like the UK,
theft in and around Golf Clubs can be
a problem. |

Palma
de Mallorca
Summer
or winter, no trip to the island, whatever
the purpose, is complete without a day or
a night in Mallorca’s capital. The majority
of the bars and restaurants along the famous
Paseo Maritimo
remain open throughout the year as does Titos,
the island foremost nightclub. Should you
wish to be a little more adventurous, ask
your taxi driver to drop you off by La
Llonja, the capital’s
historic area. Here you will find Mallorca’s
cosmopolitan night life, some great live music
and a real flavour of Palma. |

Where
do Spend our Evenings in the South west area
of Mallorca?
Between
April & October you will be spoilt for
choice. Magalluf
goes mad, the clubs & bars tend to stay
open until the last customer leaves. Palmanova
is a little more restrained but again most
bars stay open very late. These resorts are
not known for their restaurants, although
if you are happy with inexpensive cafeteria
quality food, Magalluf
& Palmanova
are fine. Portals Nous
and its Marina area are awash with great restaurants,
more expensive, as are the bars, but this
is where the rich and famous hang out. One
can find the occasional good restaurant in
resorts such as Illetas
and Bendinat and
these areas are far less crowded. Magalluf
& Palmanova
pretty well close down between November &
March. Some restaurants in the Marina at Portals
Nous also close, but the area
stays busy with Yacht owners & their crew.
Palma is a great
option in the winter months. International
cuisine is abundant; the bars seem to open
round the clock, and Palma’s frequent
festivals include loads of free live music
performed by bands in the many squares. We
avoid naming good bars and restaurants as
some seem to “change hands” with
alarming frequency, but should you need this
kind of information, please ask
us during your visit. |
